Tournament Overview

The FIFA World Cup 2026 will be the 23rd edition of the prestigious football tournament. It will take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026, and will be hosted jointly by three North American countries: Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

Group Stage Format

For the first time, the World Cup will feature 48 teams instead of 32. To accommodate the expansion, the group stage format has been reorganized into 16 groups of three teams each. The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage.
